5 January 2007 Coming home the other day, Genna runs up to me and gives me a big hug whispering into my ears ' You're back Daddy! I missed you.' The love a daughter gives to her father is unconditional and sweet. I hug her back tightly and kiss her forehead 'I love you too....now what did you break? Is mummy going to kill you soon?'
I'm amazed at how quickly kids pick up things these days....... I doubt if I knew my ABCs when I was 6, never heard of a computer and certainly never had the privilege of a Pokemon cards collection.

I had just returned from Bangkok last night. A week earlier 8 bombs went off in several parts of the city. I could not tell that something untoward had happened. The politicians and the locals seem to have differing views. Coup leaders are still pointing a silent finger towards the former prime minister Thaksin while the man on the street refuses to accept this veiled accusation, leaning more towards elements in the restive Muslim south for the incidents.
The traffic jams seems to have gotten worse but people look more well off.... spotted at least 2 Ferarris and a Bently on the road.
I remember people in Bangkok being always pretty laid back and taking things easy..... nowadays it seems that everyone including the som-tam salad seller by the roadside stall going about things in a much more hurried rush.
One great pity is the rush of construction projects. Broke my heart on Tuesday afternoon when my taxi drove by a beautiful grand villa from the 20's being mercilessly torn down by an army of laborers weilding sledgehammers.

We had just gotten over one of the rainiest weeks in living memory over X'mas week here in Singapore. I was fortunate enough to be on vacation that week. Actually in the beginning I was disappointed, having planned a drive into Malaysia for a vacation with the family. The rain ended that plan quick when rain poured down in buckets.
Ended up spending the week at home instead.
I actually ended up enjoying the rest at home. It allowed me to get 8-9 hours of sleep daily, something that I'd really missed for a long time. It also allowed us to play tourists in our own country for once, going to places and eating at all sorts of nooks and crannies in the walls.
I might do more of that the next time vacation leave comes around.
